FS#12442 — Mails
Scheduled Maintenance Report for Web Cloud
Completed
We are going to de-activate the outgoing TCP connections on port 587 (submission protocol) on shared hosting to external network.

We are led to take this step to ensure maximum quality of service to our customers.

Leaving this port open to the outside, we expose ourselves to the mass mailing of spam and possibly the risk to being blacklisted by organizations such as spamhaus or CBL. Spam is coming from vulnerabilities/hacks CMS or a client malicious behavior.

The presence of our outgoing IPs being blacklisted has the following effects:

- Legitimate emails from our customers will be labeled as \"spam\" or \"junk\" in the inbox or simply ignored among providers using these blacklists to filter messages;
- The overall reputation of the network is tainted.

Specifically, the email traffic from the shared infrastructure via an external provider (relay host) as Mailjet will not be available by default.
For customers who wish to keep this possibility, we will set up a dedicated IPs Pay Service.

We have already made a BETA for this service, see:http://forum.ovh.com/showthread.php?101472-IP-d%E9di%E9e-(priv%E9e)-SORTANTE-sur-H%E9bergement-Web-Mutu

Important: this blockage does not concern email submissions to port 587 on our email infrastructure or the host name ns0.ovh.net.
